Every
February the people of Detroit put it to a vote. They tell us which are their favorite bars and restaurants, drinks and gift shops, their most valued sportscasters, adult service purveyors and nightlife promoters. They tell us which local band is sure to be the next big thing and where’s the best place to take a weekend getaway. We value that democratic process and so, with great pride, we take on the task of tallying those votes and compiling a yearly guide on what’s good in Detroit. From London Chop House to Fifth Avenue, from Westborn Market to Modern Skate and Surf, from Kaleido to Wilson, from Valentine Vodka to Bell’s, from the Fillmore to the Royal Oak Music Theatre, we’ve enjoyed exploring and catching up with those who’ve been chosen as the best in metro
Detroit in 2013.
But more than just a list of all the great things Detroit has going for it, our yearly Best Of issue is a go-to guide, a collection, a historical reference for the things we’ve collectively excelled at and the advancements we’ve made as a community rich in food, ambiance, music, art and design. Each and every year Detroiters do bigger and better things and we’re proud to offer this amalgam of our strengths in creativity, beauty and deliciousness to those we call our beloved readers. Love it or loathe it, Detroit is our home. It’s who we are. And it’s not going anywhere.
For all their valiant efforts in helping us create our best Best Of issue yet, we’d like to thank Nicole Rupersburg, Gary Bartle, Ashley Zlatopolsky, Joe Hakim, Robert del Valle, Ashley White and Nick Pizana.
