The latest from Squarepusher may not be very danceable—and in some places, not even very listenable in the traditional sense—but it sure is both intriguing and creative. Working with hyperactive rhythms and glitchy electronic sounds, Tom Jenkinson (a.k.a. Squarepusher) crafts fascinatingly fractured soundscapes that sound like a circuit-board seizure. Although he's worked with some analog instrumentation in the past, Jenkinson delves completely into electronic sound here. The result is a collection of tracks that span from more musical ("Energy Wizard") to brooding ("Red In Blue") to sheer digital heart attack ("303 Scopem Hard"). Squarepusher makes a compelling case for truly intelligent electronic music.
