Shores Inn

There are places with good bar food, burgers, sandwiches and beers to wash them down with. Then there are the rare places with great bar food, a dizzying array of beer choices and so much more. In St. Clair Shores, that's the Shores Inn. Open for over 20 years, the Inn can be found on Greater Mack, just south of Nine Mile. Newly remodeled, it's spacious, but the wood paneled walls keep it cozy. The covered and heated patio lets you take advantage of the beautiful weather outside and there is something for everybody.

I stopped into this Eastside favorite and found myself with almost too many tempting choices. The menu is filled with all the things you would expect like a variety of appetizers, burgers and sandwiches.Try the Barbeque Jack burger. At 1/3 of a pound and covered with cheddar cheese, Jack Daniel's barbeque sauce and onion straws, you'll barely have room for the fries and coleslaw. I highly recommend the salmon sandwich. A perfectly cooked salmon filet is covered in a Red Stag barbeque sauce and served on a pretzel roll. The combination is delicious.

The menu also has things you might not expect to see – like a variety of pasta dishes. Take the chicken palamino tortellini, for instance. Tri-colored cheese tortellini covered in a palamino sauce (a marinara and cream sauce blend) and topped with a grilled chicken breast and parmesian reggiano cheese. Near to Lake St. Clair, you find a variety of seafood choices, as well. The perch dinner comes either lightly breaded and pan fried or beer battered and deep fried. The grilled salmon is cooked to perfection and comes with choice of potato and the vegetable of the day.

Once you make your mind up about the food, the truly hard part begins. Shores Inn has 20 beers on tap and offers 150 bottle beer choices. Trying to decide what to try, with beers from over 20 countries, can be a little daunting. They have over 30 Michigan made beers, including selections from Atwater Block, Detroit and Motor City Brewing companies. If you want to try them all, you can try for the Hall of Foam. The challenge is to have all 150 beers, with no time limit, and receive your name on a plaque on the wall, beer and food discounts for life and a gift card. (One patron did it in under three weeks!)

Shores Inn will make sure you won't be bored either. Monday through Friday from 3-6 p.m. is Happy Hour. Buy one appetizer, get one half off, along with $1 off drinks. 38 TVs line the walls, so you're sure to catch the big game and during it you can get $2.75 domestic drafts and 45 cent wings. Every night of the week there is something going on. Mondays they have Quizzo and their burger bash, Tuesdays save on 32-oz. boomba specials and the fajita frenzy. On Wednesday, it's all you can eat perch – and it's ladies night. You could win a Coach purse! Thursdays and Fridays have a DJ after 10 p.m. and live music on Saturdays. Sundays are industry night, where you can save half off your bill with proof of employment and sing your heart out for karaoke.

High quality food, beer and drink choices galore, specials and something fun to do every day, make Shores Inn the place to be. | RDW
