Sixto Rodriguez's ability to write songs with strong visual images comes off like a cross between Bob Dylan and Curtis Mayfield. His songs are both folky and funky, with tales of gritty urban life as seen through the world weary eyes of someone who lived through the worst of times and still looked forward to the good times ahead. Rodriguez released two killer records, Cold Fact and Coming In From Reality at the dawn of the 1970s, and then promptly disappeared from the musical landscape. Over the years the Detroit born singer/songwriter's influence has grown in mythical proportions from a forgotten artist to a superstar whose music would be the soundtrack for social change in South Africa. This soundtrack features tunes from both of his albums, and is a great introduction to the legendary artist.

Worth a Listen: "Sugar Man"
