I Am Sound

For some, this record will read as sleepytime music. And while it is certainly a mellow listen, it's also not a record that should be ignored. This L.A.-based band has put out two choir-driven indie folk EPs since they first entered the scene and both have been adept practices in their chosen genre. Creators of a beautifully and masterfully filled out sound, Lord Huron have managed with their first full-length record to fill a void that's been widening in the world of music today. More dynamic than Bon Iver and not quite as ridiculously folk as Fleet Foxes, the rambling indie tunes found here work well, at least for this listener, in addition to both chilled-out tunes and high energy, high impact odes as well. Opening track, "Ends of the Earth", is a particular example of this duality, as is "Time to Run" – both as beautiful as the rest of the record.

Worth a Listen: "Ends of the Earth"
