When driving down Van Dyke Avenue in Warren, Limelight Sports Bar and Grill is, literally, in the limelight. With a lime green and bright purple exterior, the bar can be seen hundreds of feet away. If there's a building on that road that truly stands out and is impossible to miss (unless you're just not paying attention), it's Limelight.
As the home of Detroit's longest happy hour, Limelight is the place to be if you're looking for those two-for-one specials. Happy hour is – brace yourselves, people – every day from opening through 7 p.m. Depending on the day of the week, that's anywhere from seven to nine hours. Holy happy hour (day)! Just imagine how many margaritas you can sip in that time frame. Well, not too many, we hope.
Besides a super long-lasting Happy Hour, Limelight features various weekly events Tuesday through Saturday. Tuesday is Trivia Night – think you've got what it takes to win? Swing on by and test out your knowledge at 8 p.m. On Wednesday, you can sing your heart out during karaoke, held from 9 p.m. to close. Thursday, you can enjoy some live music, with another chance to belt out some tunes during a second karaoke session on Friday. Ladies, Saturday is YOUR night, where you can dance to the grooves provided by a live DJ.
Now, we all know Mother Nature has been quite indecisive with our weather lately, but when it's finally nice and sunny out, checking out the heated outdoor patio is a must. Numerous tables and beautiful decorations make this a great spot to chill and mingle, or to just get some fresh air. And if you're a fan of bar games, Limelight provides plenty of entertainment. Pool tables, darts, golden tee, and Club Keno can be found inside. There is also a digital jukebox, with all the classic and current hits to choose from. Def Leppard, anyone?
Twenty-five HD TVs located throughout the bar are another added bonus to the already exciting atmosphere. Since the 2012 playoffs are currently underway, this is ideal for hockey lovers who want a good seat while sipping on some drinks. If you're the type of person that likes to be right in front of the TV, you'll be very, very happy with these arrangements. With so many TVs, you'd have to try pretty hard to get a "bad view" of the game.
If you haven't made plans for Cinco de Mayo yet (and even if you have), stop by Limelight for some superb drink specials. In the typical celebratory style of this holiday, there will be ample amounts of $4 margaritas, $5 Patron shots, and $2.50 Coronas. The Corona special, in particular, is a wonderful steal. Just like everyone is Irish on St. Patty's Day, everyone is Mexican on Cinco de Mayo. So don your sombreros, find your best fake mustache (or real), grab a drinking buddy, and get ready to party! | RDW
