In My Ear

Appleseed Collective

They just released their first true full-length debut album, Baby to Beast, earlier this year, but this five-piece from Ann Arbor has been working on their sound for quite some time. Purveyors of what they call American jazz folk, their sound is something of a bluegrassy, turn-of-the-century type throw-back. Not exactly the kind of stuff you're hearing on the radio, which is only half of what makes us think they're pretty darn cool. But the fact that along with a mandolin, violin and banjo, they also include a washboard in their incredibly dynamic, filled-out sound ... well, it doesn't get much better than that. Amazing musicians usually listen to even better music, so we asked them what's currently in rotation on their iTunes and this is what they gave us.

Broken Lamps - Mornin' Old Sport

The Coo - The Go Rounds

WestDownRightUpLeftEast - The Soil and the Sun

Don't Get Married Without Me - Punch Brothers

Alice -Tom Waits

Swing 42 - Django Reinhardt

Attaboy - The Goat Rodeo Sessions

Half Poison, Half Pure - Matt Jones & The Reconstruction
