Hot Town Festivals In The City

Every year the masses of Michigan congregate to festivals, big and small, for a taste of that one, all too important thing, the summer season. Whether gathering at Comerica’s CityFest to listen to De La Soul or heading out to Ypsilanti’s famed Elvisfest for peanut butter and banana sandwiches, one thing is for sure, we will eat, drink and dance to our heart’s content and be thankful for all the great weather.

Stars and Stripes • 6/26-27 • Mt. Clemens
If you love music and fun then you cannot miss this three-day, event-filled, summer-time celebration. Hear tributes to Zeppelin and Floyd, in addition to performances from Morris Day and the Time. Catch all the other action as well, including extreme sports exhibitions, carnival rides, a petting zoo, local artists’ exhibits and an offshore boat show — too much to see and too little time!

Comerica CityFest • 7/1-5 • New Center Detroit
Who doesn’t love celebrating a birthday? That’s right, CityFest, in all its musical, cultural and culinary glory, turns 21 this summer! De La Soul, Buddy Guy and The Veronicas will play on the Main Stage, but, as always, there will be a slew of restaurants and stores offering up their great goods. Skaters, breakdancers and art exhibits guarantee that this will be a birthday to remember.

Now in its second year, this festie has pulled some serious artists from all genres: Bob Dylan and his band, Chromeo, Girl Talk, Flogging Molly, Ani DiFranco, Man Man, The Hard Lessons, Guster, G. Love & Special Sauce, Matisyahu, Broken Social Scene and the lineup goes on and on. So grab your Teva sandals and your bug spray and get ready for one of the most talent-packed festivals Michigan has ever seen.
