Hot Bars

Hot Bar Design: Rosie O’Grady’s
Since entering the downtown Ferndale scene barely three weeks ago, the new Rosie O’Grady’s Irish Pub has solicited a “wow” from nearly every patron that walks through its doors. Modeled after the successful Chesterfield Township location, the Ferndale version features a different atmosphere for every type of guest, something that has no doubt contributed to the refreshingly mixed crowd that has steadily gathered at the bar. Inside, friends unite around spacious pub tables, or cozy up in booths. Regulars and newcomers, Ferndalians and visitors mingle at the open-air patio bar, a comfortable section of the restaurant that allows patrons to be outside without actually having sacrifice the roof over your head.

Hot Pick-Up Joint: BlackFinn
BlackFinn Tavern hit the ground running last year when it opened on Main Street in downtown Royal Oak. The buzz was loud and the lines were long — BlackFinn was clearly the place to be for the young party crowd looking to scope out some fellow hotties for a night of debauchery. And a year later, not much has changed. The bar is routinely packed with Royal Oak’s beautiful people, with lines down the block as late as one a.m. The most serious partygoers come back night after night, and have been known to ditch their date to go home with a newfound “friend.” While daytime and early evening BlackFinn is subdued and relaxed, the fresh young thangs shake it at night and look for love.

Hot Fun: Lucky Strike Lanes
Bowling, for many of us, has a tendency to be one of those last-resort type of events — for those who want an actual “activity” to accompany drinking. Lucky Strike, however, makes grimy lanes, a dingy bar and big-haired league competitors a thing of the past. This Novi arcade/grill/nightclub/hot spot located under MBarGo, gives some glam to the traditional American pastime while providing plenty of things to do and arcade games to conquer for those of us grown-ups who will always have a little “kid” in us.

Hot Downtown: Detroit
While the mini-downtowns surrounding our great city are blossoming into some very cool urban areas, there’s no greater place to find rich history and fresh ideas than the original. Woodward’s southern region and surrounding areas has sports complexes (Comerica, Ford Field), art venues (Detroit Opera House), shiny new bars and restaurants (Centaur) and friendly, only-in-Detroit gems (the recently-restored Cliff Bell’s, Cafe D’Mongo’s Speakeasy), all within a walkable distance. We love you, Detroit.

Hot Female Bartender: Hannah Kill @ MBarGo
Some of the best bartenders view their work like a stage performance — the art of the pour, the sexuality of alcohol, nightlife’s perennial performer. MBarGo’s Hannah Kill couldn’t agree more. “I could see that,” says Kill. “It definitely gives you confidence, and any good bartender wants to put on a good show.” Now 24, Kill has been serving drinks since she was old enough to serve legally at a bar.

Hot Male Bartender: PJ Thomas @ Centaur
One might assume that bartending at the Centaur automatically makes you hot. But in all actuality, it only makes the honor more prestigious … and we couldn’t think of anyone more deserving than PJ Thomas, who has spent the last 15 years of his life mastering the art of the pour. “When we pour a drink,” explains Thomas, “it’s not necessarily a show … but it is solid personality entertainment.” Cheers!
