Great Baraboo

There is no denying that Michigan is a beer state. We love a good craft beer and there are no shortage of breweries to fill this need. In Macomb county, the place to stop in is at the Great Baraboo Brewing Company. Located in Clinton Township, this open and airy place is the perfect watering hole for those who want to enjoy a good brew. They even have a patio if you want to enjoy the weather at the same time!

Stepping into Great Baraboo, there is no question what the focus is. The five huge copper fermenting tanks sit in locations all through the seating area. It's pretty cool to look up at them and know that they are making beer right then and there. In the corner, behind a wall of glass, you can see the rest of the operation. More copper tanks, ladders and plumbing make it easy to see just what goes into being a brewery. Behind the huge bar, mugs line the wall and you see the large taps for the house brews.

Great Baraboo brews five off their own beers. Their Boston Blackstone Porter is a dark-colored full body beer with a light chocolate flavor. They also make three different ales. The Shark Tooth Golden Ale is made from two-row barley. It's a light bodied refreshing ale. The Heartland Hoppy Pale Ale is a classic American type with a fruity, floral aroma and flavor. Snake Eye Canyon Red Ale rounds them out with a deep copper color with a rich malty flavor. I highly recommend the Kings Peak Caribou Wheat. It's an American version of a German style wheat beer. It's a smooth and mellow with a little bit of a fruity note to it.

Great Baraboo also keeps one other specialty beer on tap but it changes frequently, so you'll have to stop in yourself to see what else they are offering. Growlers of these can be purchased and you can always stop in to refill them too. Ask about joining the Mug Club and getting a personalized mug and a host of other discounts and specials.

Now just because this is a brewery, doesn't mean that they don't offer much more. They have all types of domestic and imported bottle beers and all the hard liquior that you would expect to find at your local bar. Ask for a Caramel Red Apple Martini or their Caribbean Cooler. They also have a full menu for munching on with your brews. They have all of your favorite appetizers and dinners, too, like fried chicken, fajitas and ribs. Sample some of their pizza and you will surely go home happy and full.

Game day is equally important at the 'Boo. All Detroit professional team games are played on the TVs placed around the whole seating area. During these games, save $1 off draft beers and eat up a ton of the 60-cent wings. Another great event to come in and watch with your friends are the UFC matches. They make sure to show every one and run specials too. And If you are looking for a good Happy Hour, then look no further. Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. get $1 off drinks and buy one, get one half off appetizers.

The TVs aren't the only entertainment at Great Baraboo. Mondays are their trivia nights. Wednesday come in and try your hand at singing your favorite song during karaoke night. If you work in the industry, you can show them proof of employment on Wednesdays and save half on your bill. Thursdays and Fridays they have live entertainment and on Saturdays too, if there isn't a UFC being televised. Check their website for more details.

Great Baraboo in Clinton Township has their own great beers, brewed on site but they are so much more. Truly a place to eat, drink and be entertained. |RDW
