The Detroit Mercantile Co.'s motto of "Provisions for the Urban Pioneer" couldn't be more true. And it really is such an apt description of owners Robert Stanzler and Robert Jameson. They seem to fit the description and character of the old Western store clerks – complete with genuine enthusiasm, knowledge and eagerness to unearth even more treasures from the Motor City (and even pre-Motor eras). I'm hard-pressed to think of another boutique or storefront that offers the eclectic array of merchandise that DMC does. Detroit-centric apparel, mason jars, ghost signs, rock posters, paper goods, Detroit Bicycle Co. gear and bikes, music, books and so many other amazing items, it'll make your head spin. But the cozy storefront isn't the only feature of this great shop – they have nearly 10,000 square feet at their disposal in the back of the building, which is currently being tidied up to use as an entertainment and event area (imagine the ridiculously cool wedding reception you could have in this place!). And there truly isn't a better location for this spot, given Eastern Market's century-old history, for a store of this theme and impact.
