Kids are tugging at the bottom of their parents' shirts, nagging them for some sweet eats while a teenage couple walks past hand in hand, the absence of parental supervision enough to make them both blush. The smell of salacious festival food wafts from every direction, but cutting through are equally captivating sounds blasting forth from a stage around the corner. To some, these sounds might be foreign, exotic even, luring them closer. For others, the deep bass and cutting syncopated drum lines will remind them of the phenomenal Detroit techno tradition; they’ll come running. On stage, behind turntables and mixers, stand Detroit Techno Militia’s T. Linder, DJ Seoul and DJ Psycho. The party has officially started.

Bill Stacy, a.k.a. DJ Seoul, who represents Bang Tech 12 and Detroit Techno Militia, is a veteran electro DJ and reps Detroit as hard as anyone in The D.
We caught up with the hardworking DJ to get the scoop on DTM, who will be rocking the crowd in Pontiac this weekend at Chrysler Arts, Beats & Eats.

Hey, Bill, catch everyone up — what is DTM?
Detroit Techno Militia (DTM) is a collection of DJs and producers who are all really dedicated to preserving the legacy of what we consider to be true Detroit electronic music and its proliferation around the world. We strongly believe in what we do and we take great pride, contributing to a tradition that has greatly inspired us.

It seems to me that you guys have been seemingly everywhere in ’08.
We’ve been really focused this year on playing as many festivals as possible — and not just the Detroit Electronic Music Festival (Movement). Recently, we were a part of River Days and now we’re going to be a part of Arts, Beats & Eats, where we get to play from 8 to 11 p.m. on one of their bigger stages, which is pretty cool.

Tell me about the new record, DTM 004.
Well, DTM 004 is being mastered right now for a vinyl release and it features myself, DarkCube and Der Mercenary. With worldwide distribution for the release, we’re pretty excited.  | RDW
