Good Eats are a Shore Thing

Good Eats are a Shore Thing

There are more places to go where “everybody knows your name” than that bar on TV. Shores Inn is one of those places: a friendly tavern where you can grab a great beer and an even better meal.

Opened in 1937, the Shores Inn has a fiercely loyal clientele. With a cozy atmosphere, very long beer list and huge menu, it’s easy for everyone to find something to love.

I started with the Calamari Provencal off the appetizer list, which is a sliced Calamari steak sautéed in a fresh tomato basil garlic sauce that comes with toasted baguette slices. A new but delicious way to start a meal. They also have the chicken wings, cheese sticks and potato skins you look for in a pub menu.

Shores Inn is a restaurant recognized for its burgers, of which they offer six different types — including a vegetarian mushroom — sure to satisfy the appetite of any burger lover. Patrons even have the option to customize their creations at the burger bar where they can choose from six kinds of cheese and eight different toppings. We recommend the Big Ben Burger: a half-pound Angus beef patty covered with sauteed onions, a Portobello mushroom, Provolone cheese and a house-made Guinness sour cream sauce. If that's not enough to fill you up, the thick-cut onion rings stacked high on the burger ought to do the job.

On the lighter side of the menu, you can pick from nine different salads and two different soups of the day. French Onion soup and chili are available everyday. Shores Inn customers love the chili so much it has even spawned a summertime chili cook-off.

If you stop in for dinner at Shores Inn there is no shortage of great entrees to choose from. Steaks, ribs and seafood are all tasty options. Try a classic like the Shepherd’s Pie, made up of angus ground beef with carrots, peas and topped with garlic herb mashed potatoes. Pasta choices include baked penne and Mama’s roasted vegetable pasta. They start with fresh garden vegetables, roast them and then toss them in a garlic basil and fresh tomato sauce. Then they are served over a bed of bowtie pasta.

You will virtually never run out of ways to wash down your meal at Shores Inn. Besides wine by the glass and all varieties of liquor, the bar keeps over 150 beers available at all times. Customers who decide to try each one and make it through them all are honored in the Hall of Foam and given a plaque on the wall, discounts on food for life and, of course, bragging rights.

Daily specials like all-you-can-eat Mexican Mondays and Happy Hour buy-one-get-one-free appetizers can always be found. The bar is continually running drink specials and their website also offers printable coupons for big savings. Weekends can find DJs and other fun theme parties.

Keeping customers happy is the number one goal at Shores Inn. Great food, great drinks, fun staff and a warm atmosphere keep people coming back. Stop in and soon you too will know everybody’s name.  | RDW
