CJ Mahoney’s
Big Grub for the Big Game
In a sports-lovin’ town like Detroit, folks are constantly seeking spots that allow them to enjoy the blood and sweat of the game while sipping a cold beer. And if you are anywhere near Troy, that place has to be, without a doubt, CJ Mahoney’s.
This place boasts over 50 TVs, so missing your favorite sporting event is something of a statistical impossibility. Like to dance and shoot, too, do ya? Mahoney’s has pool tables and a DJ, to boot. It seems that owner Tom Everson has put together a sports grille the offers something for all types of folks. And the restaurant’s menu is the biggest reflection of this.
It’s best to start with one of the many appetizers, like the chicken quesadillas. Large portions of cheddar and pepper jack cheese layered with grilled chicken breast between tortillas make for the beginning to a highly memorable evening. Served with lettuce, tomato and fresh salsa, these quesadillas are big enough to be a meal on their own. CJ’s also offers potato skins, buffalo chicken strips and a veggie tray of cucumber, carrots and celery for those watching what they eat. On the side comes creamy, house-made ranch dressing for dipping. Mmm!
If you drop in to CJ Mahoney’s for a whole meal, you won’t walk away hungry. The portion sizes are generous enough to satisfy any appetite or craving, no matter what the dish may be. Even one of the salads, the Antipasto, is large enough for two people. For this, they start with fresh greens, then toss in mozzarella cheese, salami, ham, black olives and peppers to be covered in their house-made dressing, served with a fresh roll.
In the mood for pasta? Choose from baked penne in meat sauce to an Italian sausage dish, or the fettuccini Alfredo. Drenched in tasty sauce, covered in mozzarella cheese and baked and served with garlic toast, this dish is worthy of an exceedingly high recommendation. Other entrée choices include ribs, fajitas, seafood and a tenderloin steak dinner.
Naturally, no notable sports grille would be worth its salt without a great sandwich on the roster, and Mahoney’s offers so many that it might be hard to choose one. With 20 varieties of sandwiches, ranging from Reubens to tuna melts, eight kinds of pita sandwiches and four types of subs, you’ll never run out of sandwich selections.
If you are out with a group, definitely try the signature pizzas. Covered in their own sauce and baked to perfection, the pizza is hugely popular, and with good reason. Specialty choices include a much-loved meat lover’s pizza, and patrons have the option of customizing their own from the toppings list.
Every tasty meal needs something to wash it down with and CJ Mahoney’s won’t leave you disappointed here, either. They stock 12 beers on tap, including a Frankenmuth-brewed variety, and are always offering shot and drink specials. The friendly staff delivers great service and helps make this bar a great place to kick back and watch a game. Indeed, CJ Mahoney’s in Troy caters to everyone of all tastes and interests. |
