If there's one thing we love about dear old Ben, it's that he really knows how to stick to what he's good at. But sadly, that's sometimes where his fault lies as well. His solo release, Former Lives, strays not from the sounds and musical stylings we've been hearing from Mr. Gibbard in the form of Death Cab for Cutie since the late '90s. Though this is (somehow) his first solo album, it's unfortunate to say that this record is pretty much a snooze fest. Maybe it's because the whole Death Cab thing has been done to death (pun intended?), but the tracks found here are sadly nothing remarkable. That said, they aren't terrible and gratefully there's no strange, trying-too-hard departure from Gibbard's usual style. "Bigger Than Love" is pretty good, but again, there's nothing here you'll want to kill with repeated listens.

Worth a Listen: "Bigger Than Love"
