I always feel like I know what I'm going to get with Ani. Her name has become synonymous with her outspokenness on social issues, bisexuality and political criticisms. The ease of her music, however, soothes all of those angry trappings. Her immensely talented guitar picking and alt-folk-rock voice blend to provide a very enjoyable release, no matter the year or musical climate (she has seen many genres come and go in her 20 years as an artist). And Which Side Are You On? is no departure. This album has all the positive characteristics of her previous releases and keeps her symbolism, usage of metaphors and other satire at a minimal amount when placed side-by-side with the actual enjoyment of her music.
