Re: “Where's the (Corned) Beef?

Thanks for the mention of Diamond Jim Brady's during St. Pat's weekend. 120 pounds of corned beef so far... lots of other tasty Irish fare to boot... Irish Lamb Stew, Beef & Stout Pie, Bangers & Colcannon, Dublin Crab, Lake Trout with Peas & Watercress. Erin go bragh!

Re: “Where's the (Corned) Beef?

Thank You for mentioning Detroit's oldest Jewish Deli Hygrades on Michigan Ave. The plate up the very Best Corned Beef in town just down from the old train station this place should not be missed since being around for 60 Years there surely doing something right.

Re: “Where's the (Corned) Beef?

in·fa·mous [in-fuh-muhs]
adjective
1.having an extremely bad reputation: an infamous city.
2.deserving of or causing an evil reputation; shamefully malign; detestable: an infamous deed.

Sincerely hoping that the author didn't understand the meaning of this word when she used it to describe Sy Ginsberg's Corned Beef. We would have preferred the term "iconic" or just plain famous. Thank you for all the great mentions, though.

Re: “Cold Weather Cuisine

Haggis is great, particularly on the Burns Night (Jan 25) tradition with neeps, tatties and a delightful whisky gravy.

As a Brit who moved to the Detroit area several years ago, I've found Ackroyds to be a mecca. Proper tea, marmalade, HP, Branston Pickle, and all manner of other traditional Brit savory snacks that are simply impossible to get elsewhere. Plus, of course there are the wonderful fresh baked goods.

Of course, Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without a tie of Quality Street and a box on Mince Pies. And without wishing to be rude, it's nice to have a piece of Fruit and Nut chocolate that is actually made by Cadbury, not the awful stuff made under license here by Hershey (which if I'm honest, tastes like the chocolate you get in pet stores for your dog in the UK).

I love Michigan, but every now and again it's nice to have a taste of home.

Re: “Real Best of Detroit 2011-Food

I think there should be a maximum distance.... 22 miles from Detroit hardly qualifies as "Detroit metro".... anything past Troy and you are really pushing it (and even that is being generous)

Additionally, not providing the city/location of each restaurant listed is a serious omission as well as not providing web-links to the restaurant. Just same basic effort/common sense on this...

Re: “Real Best of Detroit 2011-Food

I agree Rojo is NOT good at all! Over priced and food is basic, mexican town is much better. Try El Zocalo's

This is cool. I hope they feature Frankenmuth Brewery, one of the oldest and one of my favorite breweries in Michigan. http://frankenmuthbrewery.com/blog/brewery…

Re: “Real Best of Detroit 2011-Food

There is NO way Rojo is the best Mexican. Andiamo should stick to Italian, Rojo is overpriced and not so good Mexican food. Seriously, Mexican Town blows this place away!!

Rub BBQ is definately the place to go for wings. They have there wing dings that are so crispy and there rub wings are to die for. They raised the bar when it comes to wings and bbq

Re: “Royal Oak Restaurant Week

Lily's Seafood on Washington was not mentioned in the article. They to are participating in restaurant week. As a matter of fact that is Lilys chef, Scott Brown who prepared the dish for the picture.

Re: “Hot Wings

Nicole, you hit the nail on the head with Your Mother's wings! They are absolutely delish and come in so many sauces--not to mention they are HUGE. My fav are the honey mustard and the honey bbq. Oh and the cajun. Anyways, I lift a wing to you and your solid stomach in doing this article! Kudos!
