If 100,000 of you go to twitter.com/WeLikeBike42 and follow the group 42RIDE, the national bicyclist group will get $42,000 from 42BELOW Vodka of New Zealand — 42 cents on behalf of each of you.

In return, the 42 bikers are pedaling across the country to celebrate bike culture, spread awareness that bicycling improves health (because it gets you off your butt) and doesn’t contribute to bad air quality. Tolerance from impatient motor vehicle drivers is needed on the road too, so bikers can feel the confidence and freedom to cycle more often.

On Saturday, July 4, 42RIDE is rolling into Greektown Casino where they can freshen up at a welcome party because, after all, they’ve been riding  through our uber-humid country for the past week. They will then glide into Comerica Cityfest where you can find them at the 42BELOW tent and hear about their adventures. Making it all happen is 42BELOW Vodka, the company that prides itself on having an eco-conscience.

Do you see the theme of the number 42 now? 42BELOW Vodka is sponsoring the nationwide ride and is happy to help educate people at 42RIDE parties while serving the signature Caipiroska 42. Who said awareness events can’t be relaxing?

The bikers are all part of the national group Alliance for Biking & Walking, which works with 140 grassroots biking and walking advocacy organizations to strengthen state and local organizations through grants, training, sharing best practices and resources.

“Bicycling is one of the best ways to explore your community and our country in a healthy and sustainable way,” said Jeffrey Miller, president  & CEO of Alliance.

Participants began their 4,017 mile bike ride last week with a five-day party in New York City at 42BELOW, then they all went on to Philly. From there, they split up as two groups of 21 riders heading in different directions across the US. If you’re interested in local groups visit peoplepoweredmovement.org.  | RDW
