Late last year - meaning December, 2011 - Detroit fashionistas and fashionistos gathered to celebrate the opening of the Detroit Fashion Collective (DFC). Curated by Adriana Pavon and her team, DFC's objective is to provide a space for the fashion community "with a focus on accelerating independently owned fashion businesses and a mission to ignite the entrepreneurial spirit of design students." The space provides everything from assistance and learning opportunities in sewing, designing, and pattern making, to equipment rental, to total space rental and much, much more. There are also office spaces available, along with a photo studio area, meeting area, hair & make-up station, and even a manufacturing space (soon to come) - it is basically, as DFC says it, "Detroit's Fashion Playground."

DFC's mixer event gave Detroit's fashion forward a chance to mingle, as well as an opportunity to learn more about Detroit Fashion Collective's ambitions. Guests were also able to scope out the creative space first-hand, guided with a tour by Adriana, herself. Ms. Pavon, our gracious hostess, provided 'lax tunes by DJ Meph, nachos and dip, tequila and beer, and strawberry angel cake, making her guests feel right at home. Asylum Fashion House's Spring/Summer 2012 collection shown at the closing night of Detroit Fashion Week was easily one of the favorites of the evening. The swimwear collection brought in classic cuts with the high waisted bikini bottoms and string tops, along with sassy cutouts and luscious ruffling. We loved the modern textures of the black alligator with the romper style swimsuit, monokinis, and the asymmetric floral one piece.
