Detroit's fashion darling, Emily Thornhill, graced the Fashion In Detroit 2012 runway with her eco-chic A/W 2013 collection under her label, Homeslice. This is Em's first solo presentation at FID since breaking off with Femilia Couture - whom are, by the way, major FID veterans. Still staying true to organic, eco-friendly fabrics, Ms. Thornhill threw some new flavor in the mix by creating original textiles, and in true Detroit fashion, the textile patterns are inspired by GM's Renaissance Center building. The color palette is in high-contrast, black and white, with bold blues and salmon hues. Strong shoulder structuring, and on the other hand, some shoulder cut-outs, also played a role here. Flowy all-over, comfort was not rendered out as the garments sustained its total chicness. In an interview with Motown Couture colleague, Lala Trips, Thornhill explains that this collection is inspired by clean lines, a little bit of Motown's own Aretha Franklin circa 1970's, and really, just a whole lotta Detroit.
See a quick, raw, clip of the interview below, and of course, the full Homeslice Clothing A/W collection. Check back with Motown Couture for behind the scenes footage of Homeslice Clothing at FID2012 by Piper Carter.

The Brightly Twisted collection was just oozing with summer. If the tie dye all over didn't give it away, then it was probably the flowy rayon... Or maybe the sun-classic wrap dresses? Or perhaps the hints of swimwear? Either way, with Michigan weather jumping right into the sunny seasons, dark wool coats are hanging up and bright lightweight garments are coming back into play. Though, with the common theme throughout the collection of obviously, tie dye, the Dearborn-based designers incorporated fun day looks along with unique night looks. With this season's trends of extra bright hues, fashionistas will have no problem fitting right into Brightly Twisted. Learn more about where to find Brightly Twisted at www.BrightlyTwisted.com

The 3rd annual Fashion in Detroit kicked off it's 2012 runway event with a showcase by AIDT students. As the models batted their fluorescent eyelashes down the catwalk, they rocked car printed gowns, bouts of electric colors, and scrap pieces from the Detroit Auto Show - perhaps in reflection of Detroit's automobile and industrial background? Makes sense. The student designers include Mariella Amador, Cari Lynn Anderson-Battle, Nina Jefferson, and much more. See the full segment in the set below and be sure to check back with Motown Couture for coverage on the rest of Fashion In Detroit 2012!
