Late last year - meaning December, 2011 - Detroit fashionistas and fashionistos gathered to celebrate the opening of the Detroit Fashion Collective (DFC). Curated by Adriana Pavon and her team, DFC's objective is to provide a space for the fashion community "with a focus on accelerating independently owned fashion businesses and a mission to ignite the entrepreneurial spirit of design students." The space provides everything from assistance and learning opportunities in sewing, designing, and pattern making, to equipment rental, to total space rental and much, much more. There are also office spaces available, along with a photo studio area, meeting area, hair & make-up station, and even a manufacturing space (soon to come) - it is basically, as DFC says it, "Detroit's Fashion Playground."
Memberships are calculated by pay-as-you-go access cards and are available for purchase online for $20 per hour. Visit www.DetroitFashionCollective.com for more info.
DFC's mixer event gave Detroit's fashion forward a chance to mingle, as well as an opportunity to learn more about Detroit Fashion Collective's ambitions. Guests were also able to scope out the creative space first-hand, guided with a tour by Adriana, herself. Ms. Pavon, our gracious hostess, provided 'lax tunes by DJ Meph, nachos and dip, tequila and beer, and strawberry angel cake, making her guests feel right at home. View the photos in this article for a taste of the space.

In the heart of Downtown Detroit is DSE, presenting to the public sales that can save you up to 60%! We are sad to announce that this is DSE's last Black Friday sale, as the store will be shutting it's doors after the holiday season. Asylum Fashion House's Spring/Summer 2012 collection shown at the closing night of Detroit Fashion Week was easily one of the favorites of the evening. The swimwear collection brought in classic cuts with the high waisted bikini bottoms and string tops, along with sassy cutouts and luscious ruffling. We loved the modern textures of the black alligator with the romper style swimsuit, monokinis, and the asymmetric floral one piece. The fashion house also included examples of some t-shirt designs of their label. Each look was undoubtedly sexy and well crafted. Learn more about this Florida-based brand by visiting www.asylumfashionhouse.com. See the full runway presentation below!

If you thought Detroit wasn't fresh, you are sadly mistaken. Streetwear boutique, REVIVE, stays lacing Michigan citizens in the freshest gear - I don't even know how else to say it. I appreciate Revive's eye looking beyond t-shirts and sneakers. It's the little things that count, and those little things could be anything from a pair of vintage Cazal frames to signature Givenchy chains.
See more about it and other goods in stock by visiting the boutique at 154 W. Maple, Birmingham, MI; phone orders at (248) 731-7849; and their website at www.revivemi.com

The opening collection for the Detroit Fashion Week closing night was presented by designer, Kate Lorenz. The collection had fall hues all over it with deep, cool colors, blacks, and burgundies. The velvets and layered designs were also much more Fall than Spring, but the sleeveless mini-dresses and wedding gowns brought it back to right around April. Our favorite parts of the collection was with the sheer blouse, ruffled evening dress, and the rose filigree dress. See below for her full runway showcase.
