Best V.I.P. Area: Elysium Lounge by Keith N. Dusenberry
When you hit the V.I.P. area at Elysium Lounge, you feel like you’ve made it — like you’re somebody. And if you’re in that vaunted spot inside this world-class club down on Shelby, then you probably actually ARE somebody. Frequented by local and visiting athletes and celebrities alike, Elysium’s V.I.P. area treats them — and you, if you’ve got the cash — right.
“The ambience of our V.I.P. is like no other; so is the hospitality,” Elysium co-owner Sean Davis says. “We have great hospitality service not only in our V.I.P., but in our entire club. We have ample seating; we have private booths. When you come to our V.I.P., it makes you feel as though you’re really V.I.P. It’s a real V.I.P. section.” (That’s probably why Puff Daddy had his legendary Super Bowl party here last year.)
Davis has 12 years experience in the nightclub industry, and it shows in the level of quality and personal care at Elysium. “I haven’t been in the position that I’m in now all of the 12 years. I started as a barback, then security, on to management and everything,” Davis says. “Now I’m an owner … Now I’m V.I.P.” he laughs.
And who else gets the honor? “We get a lot of the ball players, but they’re V.I.P. just by default,” Davis explains. “We have a lot of V.I.P.s: Sometimes we get ones that come once a week, twice a week. We have ones that come once a month and spend $5,000 once a month. Or we may have the one that will spend $1,000 every week, which I don’t understand how, but that’s what they do.
“We get a lot of the athletes and we also get a lot of the celebrities that come into town,” Davis continues. “ When you’re not from here, you’re gonna ask the locals, ‘OK, where’s the place to go in the downtown area?’ And hopefully they’ll say Elysium. … It’s not being cocky or anything, but we’ve done an exceptional job in designing a place that will make these celebrities feel as if they’re still back in their hometown: Los Angeles, Miami and many of the other big cities.”
And though he may now be a V.I.P. himself, Davis and his staff at Elysium still have to deal with the sometimes crazy (“I wouldn’t call it ‘crazy’; I would call it ‘abnormal,’” Davis tactfully states) requests of the club’s top-tier clients. “I’ve had a customer who, at about five minutes to two, said, ‘What’s your most expensive shot?’ We said, ‘It’s Louis,’” Davis recalls, referring to the $1,300-a-bottle Remy Martin Louis XIII Cognac. “The guy said, ‘OK, I want 15 shots of Louis right now, before two o’clock.’ We said, ‘We can’t do it.’ He said, ‘No, I have to have 15 shots.’ We gave him 15 shots, but he had nobody to give ‘em to. So he invited all of the staff that was around — he gave all the staff $150 shots of Louis.”
So, what does it take to attain this level of customer service and hospitality?
How can you have a waitress at your beckon call? How can you impress the ladies with your bottle service and access to Elysium’s upstairs lounge? “V.I.P. is, of course, someone that’s willing to dish out the dollars to be V.I.P.,” Davis says. “We actually have V.I.P.s where we make them V.I.P — our regular customers, our faithful customers — that makes them a V.I.P. as well. Every person that walks in my club is ‘V.I.P.’ But upstairs is that exclusive, ‘Hey, I wanna be seen’-type thing.” | RDW
Elysium Lounge is at 625 Shelby St., Detroit; 313.962.2244 or www.elysium-lounge.com.
Best Pick Up Scene: Club 22 photo by Geno Bisoni
Former Red Wings superstar Dino Ciccarelli may hold jock status, but Real Detroit readers know his bar, Club 22 (his former jersey number), is anything but a sports bar. Put on the new duds, bring the dancing shoes and expect to meet someone from the opposite sex because as the Best Pick Up Scene, this Shelby Township club is sure to bring you home. If you want to light up the disco ball, request a song from the DJ or just enjoy memorabilia from some of Detroit’s music legends like Madonna or Kid Rock, Club 22 is the pick.
Best Bar On Monday Night: Dooley’s Tavern photo by Geno Bisoni
Monday night football, basketball and hockey. Point taken. This is the place to be for all games, anytime. The bar is big enough to accommodate all sports fans alike. Dooley’s has a knack for wild events like Pajama Parties and Flair Bartending Competitions. All walks of life are welcome into this friendly atmosphere — but if you’re not a sports fan on Mondays … they feel sorry for you. Watch your favorite game on their 70-inch TV, and feel like you’re really there — but you’re really here, and that’s good enough for Dooley’s.
Best Martini Bar To Have Opened In The Last Year: Nomi
Rico Miller is one of the premier mixologists on earth and can be found in Northville integrating the freshest ingredients with top-shelf liquors to create some of the most intricate and exotic cocktails in the world. At Nomi, a perfect martini is art, and in this realm Miller is an avant-garde expert. Drinking with friends is always a good time but at Nomi a night at the bar is transformed into a transcendent experience.
Best Promoter: Paxahau
The hottest in house music, Paxahau parties are everywhere, creating a new buzz and a lasting sensation. Their 8-year anniversary hit in 2006, and it was a spectacle of the most intense house music and featured a very dedicated Detroit crowd packed with Real D readers. From Sakana in Ferndale to The Works in Detroit, this hardworking group of DJs is leading a movement and creating a serious scene throughout the city. They're also leading (as in throwing/producing/directing) another Movement — the big one formally known as Movement: Detroit Electronic Music Festival (DEMF to the rest of us) that happens every Memorial Day weekend down in Hart Plaza.
Best Jukebox: Gusoline Alley
The sounds of bands like The Gimme Gimmes, Bad Brains, Blood Farmer and Devo all come from Royal Oak’s Gusoline Alley where the jukebox is chock-full of tunes from Blanche to Tom Waits. Be sure you bring your quarters and dollars, because the music of Gomez, Electric Mud and the Sun Compilation records keeps rockin’ until last call. So what if you still have five bucks invested in the jukebox when you leave, consider it an act of random kindness … or just stick around.
Best Way To Meet The Love Of Your Life: Social Connection
Social Connection provides upscale, single professionals a calendar of events to go to with the idea of meeting someone new. From bars to biking, there are usually more than 600 metro events to attend, and the likelihood of meeting the love of your life is pretty darn good, so what are you waiting for? You can catch representatives all over town — and if they don’t approach you first, feel free to do so … consider it pick up practice.
Best Bar To Celebrate Your 21st Birthday: Envy
Five years going strong, this elite downtown nightspot offers three intense levels of mad fun. From bartenders who flair to DJs who rock, your 21st birthday will be a memorable experience. If you notice, this bar has carpeted floors (except the dance floor), which, ladies, makes wearing those heels more tolerable. Envy is beautiful on every level, especially the newly unveiled third floor. It has an exclusivity factor that no bar can compare to. You can reserve a booth to have your very own private party and dance the night away.
Best Bar To Have Opened In The Last Year: Tom’s Oyster Bar, St. Clair Shores (See Raise The Bar)
Best Dance Club: Sevin the Nightclub This 21,000-square-foot dancer’s paradise is Pontiac’s hottest club. From MySpace vixens to Playboy Playmates, Sevin is the choice to let your inner sexiness come out. The scantily clad go-go dancers situated above the dance floor provide eye candy for all to see, and provoke all your hottest dance moves to evolve. Try their Sevin Deadly Sins drink, and you’ll find yourself bumping and grinding with the best of them. World-class DJs and major local Detroit names supply the sounds and you can’t help but crowd the floor. Come early, stay late and dance your ass off.
Best Pub: O’Tooles Now with three locations in metro Detroit, it’s hard to avoid O’Tooles, but why would you ever want to. It’s your local Cheers. It’s where the barstaff is all-female and wears schoolgirl uniforms (OK, Cheers didn’t have that). Pick up a Giraffe (a small one or a Big Daddy — and no, not the animal) filled with beer of any kind and sit back with some buddies and watch the game on one of many TVs. With a full menu and a wide variety of drinks and live music, this pub is all you need in your local city.
Best Irish Bar: Dick O’Dows Being that this bar was built in Dublin, Ireland and literally shipped over — it is the only authentic Irish bar in metro Detroit. This bar started the Irish invasion of bars and has raised the bar for any competitor. With traditional Irish fares like Ballyshannon Brie, Gaelic Steak and Boxty, you’re sure to be feelin’ green before you know it (not from nausea, though). Even if you think Irish bars are more for drinking than eating … OK, you’re right, but the food is highly delicious, and a tall cold one always completes your meal. Live music of all kinds, although Irish is preferred, keeps you hopping with your Irish hops and toasting with all your lads.
Best Cocktail Lounge: the bosco If the girls from Sex and the City were in Detroit, they would hit up the bosco for their alluring mix of cocktails and their luxe décor. The Haberman brothers developed this sensual playground for all the local trendsetters and have proved to be a staple in Fashionable Ferndale. The low lighting and funky dub and hip-hip/electronic music make the bosco the best lounge for all customers and occasions. Weather permitting, the outdoor garden is a popular pick to sit, enjoy the waterfall and mingle. The bosco evokes your tasteful party-mode in a very Miami-chic way. Enjoy a Mojito and chill …
Best Martini Bar: Centaur Hip, chic and shaken, not stirred describes this retro-Eurasian bar. It’s where business meets trend, and where you’ll receive the most impressive martinis and the most creative appetizing dishes — you’ll never want to leave. Glossy leather couches and a superlative chandelier create an atmosphere of wonder and wow. High-class meets Detroit hip, your experience at Centaur will be timeless. Follow the stairways through the second and third floors, and you’ll find a new experience on every level. Even James Bond would be impressed.
Best Signature Martini: Bartini’s This place has martinis down to a science and no concoction is more popular than their signature mix, the Bartini. Chilled raspberry, strawberry and orange flavored Stoli come together with pineapple juice, grenadine and freshly squeezed lemonade to create a burst of taste so vibrant most reactions result in a jaw dropping “Wow, that’s the best martini, I’ve ever had.” The scientist behind this formula is Gene, so next time you see her on a Wednesday night, thank her and buy her one!
Best Gay Bar: Ice The creative force behind Space has brought us to a new level of pure icy fun. The hottest DJs spin an eclectic mix of heavy hitting dance and Top 40, and all are sure to be flaunting their assets on the dance floor. Although primarily a gay bar, Ice has opened the doors to Pure Ice Fridays, where ladies are also very welcome. This bar has an intense light show sure to showcase all aspects of the bar in attractive colors and strobes while the music pulsates throughout your less-than-icy body.
Best Lesbian Bar: Rainbow Room All walks of life have come through these doors and have witnessed a ton of colorful fun. Drag shows are quite popular and extremely entertaining. Wednesday through Saturday have ongoing events showcasing the many colors of the Rainbow Room, and Miss Rainbow Room herself, Hershae Chocolate will welcome you with open arms. Shows dedicated to Bette Midler and many other divas make this bar unique.
Best Sports Bar: Cheli’s Chili Bar Among our voters, the strong majority absolutely love Cheli’s Detroit for their proximity to Comerica Park (Tigers) and Ford Field (Lions), and convenient transportation to Joe Louis Arena (Red Wings). Sports fans that come to Cheli’s feel right at home with wide-screen TVs, quality service, amazing bar food and a treasure trove of hockey jerseys that don the walls and rafters. “A jock's dream,” one voter chimed in.
Best Piano Bar: JD’s Key Club Ivory keys have always been near and dear to Detroiters and JD’s Key Club brings the piano to the forefront. Once you find this Pontiac gem, you will be greeted by dueling pianos, dancing waitresses and a high-energy crowd looking to get down. Oh yeah, the baby grand never sounded so good, and neither will you since the piano maestros take personal requests. Young or old, Real D readers know where the right note is.
Best Billiards Hall: Snookers Pool & Pub Billiards bars are a popular pastime for readers far and wide and Snookers sets the standard. With multiple pool tables, dartboards and plasma TVs, it’s the place to be on any night of the week. Snookers is big on private parties and patrons keep making reservations because of their great bar atmosphere and genuinely friendly staff. “I’ve owned Snookers for 10 years and the same people are still here,” Mike Abrams said. This place has great racks!
Best Karaoke Bar: Gator Jake’s Bar & Grill Real D readers know what they’re talking about when they want to sing out loud and act a fool, and Gator Jake’s is the favorite of the metro area’s karaoke aficionados. Many come here to watch the game, eat, play darts or even gamble (legally), but it’s the hardcore class of karaoke singers who light up the mic every Wednesday night. “It’s only once a week, but it’s lively, upbeat and tons of fun,” owner Dave Calandra said. “The staff really gets into it, too!”
Best Bar For An Impromptu Rinse Off: Club Gold Coast For more than three decades, Club Gold Coast has been Detroit’s leading club for male entertainment and Real voters spoke loud and clear that this is the spot for a quick cool off after the gettin’ all hot on the dance floor (yep, they have showers). Don’t miss these hot nights: Monster Mondays, Twisted Tuesdays, Wet ‘N’ Wild Wednesdays and Dollar Thursdays. Of course, every day at Club Gold Coast is Dress-up Day.
Best Corner Bar: Town Pump Tavern The Town Pump could easily qualify for many Best Of categories, but our readers chose this Montcalm Street watering hole because of its proximity to the city’s theatre and sports facilities, beautiful selection of beer and liquor, and a location you don’t get in a typical corner bar. The oversized booths are perfect to fit your friends, and don’t be surprised if you run into some old buds at this impressive, nostalgic corner bar.
Best After-Hours Club: The Works At the best after-hours club in the city, you get a mix of straight, gay and bisexual folk who come together to keep the vivacity of the night alive. There is plenty to drink, good burgers to soak it up and great music to shake to. Aside from all the aforementioned qualities, according to our readers, “one of the best things about The Works is watching the sun come up.” You know what they say: Ain’t no party like a Detroit party!
Best Bar At Midnight: Delux Lounge When Real Detroit hipsters are looking for a "tweener" before the after-party, they venture no further than Delux Lounge in Greektown. The décor adds to the main event: drinking. We urge you to find a better place to order up a wild vodka-infused mixed drink or some untamed liquor concoction. At the height of the night, the witching hour to some, there’s no better place in the city to bring in the new day.
Best Bar At Last Call: Double Olive When you’re in the car and looking for that final destination to party the night away, Real Detroit readers head for the Double Olive in Dearborn. So many Detroiters pick the Double Olive to cap off the night because of the laid back lounge and bar atmosphere that incorporates a wide selection of martinis, beer and other fantasy drinks. Of course, some of the hottest hipsters end up here at the end of the night, which helps make your decision to attend last call that much easier.
Best Bar To Run Into A Band: The Magic Stick Already infamous or just on the cusp, from Detroit and afar, The Magic Stick is simply the best bar to run into musicians. “Bands hang out here all the time. They may play elsewhere, but end up here,” Greg Baise of The Magic Stick said. “We’ve had Death Cab For Cutie, The Black Keys and Iggy Pop holding court here and so many others.” Don’t be surprised if you’re hanging out with the next big band; buy them a drink.
Best Bathroom: Northern Lights Lounge At Northern Lights Lounge, Real D readers have staked their Best Of claim on the cool surroundings of the spacious, discreet, ridiculously clean bathrooms. These rooms are reminiscent of the luxury that exists only in the comforts of our own crib. We guarantee you’ll use the Northern Lights Lounge's relaxation rooms more than once — and you’ll enjoy the experience every time.
Best Beer Selection: Ye Olde Tap Room The Tap Room has been a traditional Detroit hang out since the 1920s, when it was a speakeasy during Prohibition. And today. Detroiters keep the taps busy with their thirst for premium brews from Holland to Germany, Sweden and Sri Lanka. Whether it's ale, rice lager, stout or malt beer, the Tap Room has it, including live entertainment throughout the week to go with your pint or bottle of choice. Prost!
Best Draft Beer Selection: Berkley Front One thing RD readers know is where to go for the best keg beer from around the world. There are more than 40 brands of brew to choose from on tap at the Berkley Front, and don’t worry about a menu, the bar has most of its beer selections written in chalk on overhead blackboards. With their "unparalleled selection,” as one voter put it, the Front is one of the best places to meet up with friends.
Best Liquor Selection: Blue Martini You see the radiant quality of this swanky joint before you even walk in. A glass and glitz selection of liquor glows at you, beckoning you to come in. More and more martini bars are opening up every day, but RD readers head for the best of them all, where more than 20 varieties of martinis are served up in top quality and style. Not taking a backseat is Blue Martini’s exceptional selection of champagne and wine as well.
Best Option To Hear Alternative Music: Luna Hands down, our voters picked Luna as the absolute best club to check out alternative music most any day of the week. Whether it’s the Luna Dancers bringing us in, or perhaps Video Appreciation Night on Tuesdays, Luna is the clear-cut choice. Of course, Saturdays are set-aside for nothing but alternative music, old school and new school — all your favorite jams are blended like a martini for the most rockin' night.
Best '80s Night: Luna The music of the '80s never felt so alive (probably because most of us should have been dead) than at Luna, where Thursday nights are all about hot hits from the '80s. Leave the shoulder pads at home, but get ready for a Thursday night time warp!
Best Drink Prices: Wild Woody’s Real readers know a good booze bargain when they see it, and Wild Woody’s provides the best deal on drafts and specialty drinks around. It doesn’t matter what night of the week it is, just ask the many beautiful servers and bartenders, “What’s the special?” and your wallet will be hooked for life. Everyone wants to meet some of the most beautiful people in Detroit over a drink and save a buck at the same time; well, Wild Woody’s is the most affordable in town.
Best Looking Bartenders (Female): Albert’s On The Alley The attractive waitstaff is always camera-ready and maintains a friendly persona — nothing is sexier. This is where the good times roll, in a comfortable atmosphere, and the drinks will flow like water, with the hotties in pour. Treat the ladies with respect (hands off, gentlemen) and you’ll have the best looking bar experience on the West side.
Best Looking Bartenders (Male): Lucky Strike OK, ladies, pick a bar in this huge gaming complex and stare. It’s OK, they’re hot! Opening up beer bottles with ease can make you weak in the knees, but contain yourself; they’re not the Chippendales. Waiting for them to pull off tear-away pants and jump on the bar to dance will not happen, but hey, ask nicely and you never know. No wonder so many adorable men work here — they get to drink beer and play games — what else would they want? Well, you could probably think of a few more things …
Best Bar To Grind With A Member Of The Opposite Sex: Venue Not only does this bar have tons of plasma TVs and many tables — the music might make you want to shake a thing or two. Venue is as good looking as its patrons, and the overall theme of the bar is fun. Why not grab a partner and toss them on the dance floor to bump and grind to the hottest Top 40, hip-hop and club music? That’s why you showed up at this sweaty and sultry venue, right?
Best Bar To Get Your Freak On: State Theatre The State Theatre was built in 1925, and we’re sure that back then the things that went on there were not nearly as sexy as they are now. An ocean of bodies fill the immense dance floor where hypnotic beats fill your soul. A rarity of a club being 18+, the State has brought a wide variety of club-crawlers out to this massive theater. Altered State is where the Ying Yang Twins and DJ Shortstop, just to name a few, have chosen to bring the house down. Every Saturday night, this is where the party starts and ends.
Best Bar Makeover: Full Kilt Mt. Clemens, and Macomb county as a whole, has been undergoing a makeover of its own; and with the recent addition of yet another imaginative and fun bar, the nightlife is truly flourishing. Formerly a Damon’s restaurant, this new Scottish, Irish and British themed pub, complete with waitresses in kilts and Celtic tunes, promises to be a catalyst to keep this East side resurrection thriving.
Best Bar Décor: iLounge For the ultimate experience in comfort and club aesthetic, our voters claimed iLounge supreme. Like a speakeasy for the modern era, this basement set, candle lit lounge has all the makings of the classic lounge. But there won’t be any swing dancing here, instead you’ll find patrons going from chic to freak faster than a Ferrari. Speaking of Ferraris, the demanding, yet non-abrasive, red atmosphere sets a sexy vibe. iSpy an RDW best!
Best Bar Concept: Eden Nightclub The club was Posh, and ready for a change. Now, it’s the tempting Eden. An overall theme of white has opened up and freshened the atmosphere immensely. Ivy-clad walls and rails bring nature back into the club at the only Miami-style nightclub in The D. A tree with a forbidden glowing red apple hangs above the bar; a waterfall that illuminates the name Eden joins the bar. This is now a place that brings you to what Mother Nature intended a club to be.
Best College Night: Tiki Bob’s Cantina You’ll walk in and have to remind yourself that you’re not in Cancun on a Tuesday night … it’s one big party. A bull in the corner, throwing drunken patrons off every other second is worth laughter from all angles. The ladies are expected to dance on the bars and ledges shakin' what their mommas gave 'em … and a little more. TBC throws a hot and sexy college night filled with fun, drinks, ladies, dancing, drinks, ladies and fun. Best Bar On Tuesday Night: Northern Lights Lounge (Tie) NLL hosts The Next Big Thing with DJs Dez, Benny Ben and Uncle Pauly. Come out and showcase your freestyle rhymes and you could be the next big thing. It’s become so popular, good luck finding a seat to catch the action — it’s getting hot in therrrr.
Best Bar On Tuesday Night: La Dolce Vita (Tie) La Dolce Vita is a different kind of Tuesday party. They host their well-known summer parties in their sensual, ivy-covered patio. Ideally, this party is for the trendsetters and hipsters of metro Detroit. It’s becoming so popular that a wide variety of people come out to this “secret garden” and party the night away in class with a spin of hot house tunes. A summer essential.
Best Bar On Wednesday: Sevin the Nightclub Wednesdays bring being Vain back in a big way. Mike Scroggs hosts Vain along with DJ Godfather, master mixologist of booty music in metro Detroit. It’s an 18+ party that puts Wednesdays back on the map. A sexy attitude is a must, and grinding on the dance floor is mandatory.
Best Bar On Thursday: Fifth Avenue Ballroom Novi (Tie) Here at Fifth Avenue, a place where live music draws a scene, Thursdays are the hottest night. They jam high-energy pop and rock covers, which draws an eclectic crowd that’s ready to party before the weekend.
Best Bar On Thursday: The Buzz Bar (Tie) Make your way downtown for the Best Thursday within city limits at The Buzz Bar. Great pizza, beer and booking make Buzz your best bet to catch one of the city's best bands.
Best Bar On Friday: Emerald Ballroom Oh my goodness, 18+ and ladies free before 11 p.m. — hell yeah! Big Boy and DJ Rubix Cube spin the hottest music to be broadcasted live throughout metro Detroit. If you’re not there to start your weekend right, we don’t have any advice for true partiers. Newsflash: Emerald is jumping on the bandwagon and providing bottle service when you reserve a booth on Fridays and Saturdays. This gives you a reason to be a V.I.P. there and party hard.
Best Bar On Saturday: Clutch Cargo’s An old, renovated Church turned body-grinding club is exactly the party destination for Saturday night. Four floors of music and ultra body rockin’ fun, Nick Craig and DJ Ryan Richards bring this party to a whole new nightclub experience. Now, Clutch Cargo’s has dancers to showcase the latest sultry dance moves. Plus, visit the Hookah Lounge on the third floor to witness video mixes by Adam R.
Best Bar On Sunday: Tonic Night Club This is the bar celebrities love to go to in metro Detroit. From P. Diddy to our beloved Pistons, they keep coming to Tonic. Sunday night boasts a major dance party. This is one of Pontiac’s longest lasting bars, and they really must have a secret to keep the crowds coming back for more. From their lingerie contests to Borat look-a-like contests, Tonic is always on fire.
Best Bar On Halloween: Emerald Ballroom An eerie spectacle of creepy club crawlers in masks and wings, Emerald Ballroom’s Costume Ball is one-of-a-kind. Especially if they’re handing out $3,000 for best costume, you best come dressed to impress, or to kill. Sure to host some of the best bands in town for this gory evening, the sounds, lights and dry ice come together to create a sexy horrorfest.
Best Bar On St. Patrick’s Day: The Old Shillelagh Packed in three different tents, all unified in green garb for the most coveted drinking holiday in history, patrons at The Old Shillelagh know this is the original celebratory locale for good ol’ St. Patty’s day. It’s not about the green beer, and gimmicks — it’s about the steady flow of Guinness, toasting with friends and having a good O'time. “Being present at Shillelagh on St. Patty’s the best thing you can do to feel like part of a rich Detroit tradition,” one voter said.
Best Happy Hour: Shores Inn For about $10-15 on any given day during the week, you’re bound (more like guaranteed!) to have tons to fun during happy hour at Shores Inn. Beer drinkers' nights for a good price would be Sunday through Wednesday, but if you’re a “liquor is quicker” kinda person, every night has a special that will get you all sorts of intoxicated and feel all happy inside and you’ll feel compelled to tell the taxi driver how great life is and how he’s your new best friend.
Best Bar To Feel Like A Regular: Hamlin Pub Their motto is “Where everyone’s a regular,” so that should give you a clue as to the kind of bar Hamlin Pub is. It’s a place where $2 Tuesdays and Wild Wednesdays live — and in a good, clean atmosphere. It doesn’t matter which location you hit up, you’re bound to feel like you fit in and have a great time during your fest of fun. Live music, karaoke and notable bar food make Hamlin pub your home away from home.
Best Bar At 10 p.m.: Boogie Fever An ode to the eras of excess, Boogie Fever has all of the elements of a great nightclub experience for most over 21. We say 10 p.m., but know that at 11 p.m. a line seems to form on the side of the building, containing an anxious crowd. No matter what you think, you’ll be dancing on their illuminated dance floor when you hear your favorite '80s jam. Don’t stop 'til you get enough.
Best Bar On The Water: Beach Grill Aptly described by one reader as, “the best party on the water,” Beach Grill has it all for fun in the sun. You can get here by land or sea (make that "lake") and have the time of your life at all hours of the day to soak up the sun, and even the moon on those humid city summer nights. There is something for everybody here, whether it’s the great food or the live music, you’ll be happy you experienced this massive waterfront mecca.
Best Patio: Fishbone’s St. Clair Shores Detroiters and suburbanites alike enjoy being outside in the spring, summer and fall, and the patio at Fishbone’s St. Clair Shores is the best place to enjoy a cold drink, some hot Cajun cuisine or conversation in the open air. Often referred to as “the hottest place on the Nautical Mile,” patrons can cool down on the patio or enjoy the heated courtyard with a 16-seat fire pit. Here comes the sun, little darlin', so off we go to Fishbone's!
