I'll be touching base on atypical subjects on fashion & style. There's a million fashion blogs on the world wide web, & most of them do the whole copy & paste thing, but I'd like to get in depth on the art of fashion. There's a pretty shallow stigma with what is associated with "fashion," because simply, it has everything to do with outside appearances.. but I'd like to acknowledge the craft behind what we see as glamour. Pardon the cliché, but there's always more to it than meets the eye.
Another attribute that may make this more of an unusual blog is associating the words, "Detroit" & "fashion." Let's face it, the D is notoriously overlooked for almost anything it has to offer, & that includes any means of style or fashion. What the world has yet to realize is that Detroit is an underground mecca of talent. There's a growing number of designers, models, fashion shows, magazines, photographers, etc. building right in here in the Motor City. With the once thriving auto industry now dwindling, people are forced to seek new solutions. Lack of resources in the city seems to leave Detroiters in one of three places: desperate, indifferent, or innovative. D fashion citizens are definitely on the innovative side, taking matters into their own hands by creating & distributing their own projects. Exceeding the expectations of most outsiders of the city, the fashion movement in Detroit is developing into promising platform.. & we're here to watch.
I am not a native Detroiter. I was born & raised in the Bay Area, California, & have only lived in the Detroit area for a few years. As an outsider, I think I may find the city to be even more fascinating than that of those who are from here. When people hear that I'm from Cali, the most common question I get is, "Why?" Why would anyone want to move here? It's cold, it's empty, there are no jobs. Well, here's how I think of it: the four seasons are beautiful, there's talent everywhere, there's room for creativity. I was a pretty serious nomad before I came to this area, jumping from place to place, living in whole different states no longer than two years at a time. My time in Detroit is my longest streak of living anywhere in the last eight years, so that's gotta say something, right?
I cannot promise a filter on what I say on here, but I can lend an ear. The "Motown Couture" blog welcomes open discussions, suggestions, questions, anything. I am looking forward to sharing some more Detroit fashion freshness with all of you. Salute!
